Somerton mk2 Baffle Brick

This baffle brick fits the Somerton II stove, specifically the V1 build produced between October 2013 and March 2014 (Eurostove's internal reference SOMER-BFL-MK2), and weighs approximately 1kg. It sits at the top of the firebox as part of the baffle (throat plate) assembly, positioned between the fire and the flue outlet. Its purpose is to make the hot gases from the fire travel further across the top of the firebox before they reach the flue, rather than escaping by the shortest possible route. That extra distance gives the gases more time to burn more fully, which improves the stove's efficiency and helps keep emissions down. The brick also protects the metal throat plate sitting above it, which would otherwise take the full force of the heat rising from the fire. Because it's positioned directly above the flames, the baffle brick tends to wear faster than bricks lower in the firebox, and cracking, crumbling or sagging over time is normal after sustained use. Once that wear becomes visible, replacing the brick is worth doing sooner rather than later — running the stove with a badly worn baffle brick can expose the throat plate to direct flame, which isn't good for the appliance long-term. This brick is sized specifically for the Somerton II V1 build, so if you're unsure whether your stove matches this build and date range, check the data plate or ask Eurostove before ordering.
