What is Somerset Day?
Somerset Day is a celebration of everything that makes the county special. In 2026, it takes place on 9th–10th May, marking both Somerset’s heritage and its modern-day community spirit.
The date also commemorates the historic moment in 878AD, when King Alfred the Great called on the people of Somerset to defend the region against Viking invasion. Today, it has grown into a county-wide celebration of local pride, people, and produce.

Mendip Stoves is a Somerset-based, family-run business, designing and manufacturing high-quality wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves from our site in Rooksbridge, Somerset.
While not all of our team are family members, we operate with a strong family ethos—valuing craftsmanship, teamwork, and long-term relationships.
Each stove is built using durable, high-quality steel and precision engineering, designed for reliable performance and long-term use. All models are CE and UKCA certified, with most being DEFRA Smoke Exempt, making them suitable for use in smoke control areas.
Inspired by Somerset
Our products are closely connected to the place we call home. Many of our stove names are inspired by Somerset villages and landscapes, including the Ashcott and Loxton stoves, along with the Willow stove inspired by the county’s iconic willow trees, and our Woodland range, reflecting the surrounding countryside and forests.
These names reflect the natural environment and local heritage that continue to inspire our designs.

Our Woodland Oven brings wood-fired cooking to life, combining traditional flame cooking with modern performance.
To celebrate Somerset Day, we’re highlighting seasonal, locally inspired dishes such as:
