Loxton - Churchill 5kW mk1 Baffle Brick

This baffle brick fits the Loxton and Churchill 5kW stove, Mk1 model, built before August 2012 (Eurostove's internal reference L/CH-5-M1-Baffle), and weighs approximately 2kg. It sits at the top of the firebox, forming part of the baffle (throat plate) assembly that separates the fire from the flue outlet. The baffle brick's job is to force the hot combustion gases produced by the fire to travel further across the top of the firebox before they can escape up the flue, rather than letting them exit in a direct, short path. This longer route gives the gases more time and heat to burn more completely, which improves the stove's efficiency and helps reduce the amount of unburnt material going up the chimney. The brick also shields the metal throat plate above it from the most intense heat in the stove, since that area sits directly above the flames. Because it takes sustained high heat, the baffle brick is one of the parts most likely to need periodic replacement — cracking, crumbling or sagging are all signs it's due. Continuing to run the stove with a badly worn baffle brick can let flame reach the throat plate directly, so replacing it promptly is a genuine maintenance task rather than a cosmetic one. This brick is sized specifically for the pre-August 2012 5kW Mk1 build, so check your stove's data plate or ask Eurostove if you're unsure which mark you have.
